Each year, MLSC brings together Maryland`s legal services community to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the delivery of legal services and access to justice for low-income Marylanders. We can help clients at risk of homelessness by connecting them with programs and resources, and potentially providing them with legal aid that could resolve their legal issues and prevent homelessness. The Maryland Senior Legal Helpline is a toll-free helpline for Maryland residents 60 years of age or older. Lawyers working at the helpline provide callers with brief legal advice or refer them to another legal resource or an appropriate public or private body. By offering these services over the phone, seniors can get help with their legal problems without having to leave home. Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) provides life-changing civil legal assistance for eligible residents throughout the state. Since 1911, MLA has been providing quality legal services to marginalized and low-income individuals and communities, helping them resolve their civil law problems and become self-reliant to overcome challenges, achieve stability and independence, and a better life overall. We provide holistic civil legal assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse through partnerships with TurnAround, Inc., CHANA and the Prince George`s County Family Justice Centre. The Ryan White Project provides free legal advice to Maryland residents who are HIV-positive or have AIDS and who live in Baltimore City or Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard or Queen Anne County.
Proof of residence, income and HIV/AIDS status is required to open a file. Maryland Legal Aid is designed to address the unhealthy legal needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and allow them to focus on combating the effects of HIV/AIDS and stay healthy. Maryland Legal Aid`s Long-Term Care Assistance Project provides free legal aid to help low-income individuals receive long-term health care. Through this project, clients can get the services and supports they need, wherever they want to live, whether at home, in the community through assisted living or in nursing homes.
