The ambient heat at the workplace shall be measured on site using WBGT measuring instruments. The use of heat index is a less desirable substitute. While local weather reports based on weather data from observation stations may be useful, readings from these stations may not reflect conditions at the specific location. If your employer doesn`t accept your request for leave or takes appropriate steps to manage the heat, you can ask to work remotely or take sick leave if you can`t work under the current circumstances. In hot weather, employers need to make the workplace as bearable as possible. If you`re not allowed to work remotely or leave early (to avoid heat spikes), they should find ways to help you get through the day. This could be by providing cold drinks and snacks, sunscreen for those working outdoors, or cooling devices such as fans or air conditioners.
