After the first year, the remaining course requirements are: Law and Ethics of the Legal Profession, Practical Skills Requirements, and Advanced Writing Requirements of Law School. Check out the courses for practical skills and advanced writing requirements for your class. Faculty of Law students must accumulate a minimum of 88 semester credit hours to graduate. After registering for the Fall 2023 courses, you will have to pay your tuition. This course addresses the ethical and legal principles that govern the legal profession. Topics include client relationship, duty of confidentiality, solicitor-client privilege, conflicts of interest, ethics in advocacy of interests, ethical issues in organizational client representation, admission to practice, and advertising and advertising. Particular emphasis is placed on model professional rules and the reformulation of lawyers` law. The law school prefers to keep classes small, enrolling about 185 students each fall. Most first-year classes have an average of about 60 students, although the legal writing and legal research course is conducted in six smaller sections by about 30 students, allowing for greater individual attention.
Second and third year classes range from a seminar setting of 10 to 20 students to larger classes of 100 students. Legal Writing I: Introduces the process of legal analysis and argumentation, teaching students to create written materials in the style and format appropriate to the audience and purpose, with an emphasis on objective analysis and writing. Legal Writing II: Advanced skills in legal analysis and reasoning in the context of legal argumentation. Students produce written materials in the style and format appropriate to the audience and purpose, with an emphasis on persuasive writing. It also covers basic concepts, conventions and formats for the preparation of legal documents. (Online, instructor-led) Learn how to use powerful tools for legal research. They formulate WESTLAW search queries and see how legal research methods save time in legal research and legal writing. The Juris Doctor is awarded after successfully completing three years of full-time law studies at the Faculty of Law. On average, more than 95% of members of each incoming class graduate. The Young Women graduate must successfully complete the 1L program, earn a minimum of 88 semester credit hours, meet our upper-level written requirements, and complete the required legal profession law and ethics course and practical skills. Since obtaining legal education is a demanding and time-consuming task, you should be prepared to devote virtually any working hour during the academic year to studying law.
The University of Georgia does not offer a part-time law program. Therefore, first-year students are encouraged not to take jobs during classes, and no law student is allowed to take a paid position during the academic year that requires more than 20 hours per week. Despite the strict requirements of legal education, many law students want to broaden their educational horizons by receiving specialized training in other areas during their law studies. The University of Georgia offers three ways to do this: electives, dual degree programs, and concurrent enrollment. At the Faculty of Law, you will find a broad and challenging program – nearly 170 courses are offered, although not all of the courses listed are taught each year. First-year students meet with a permanent or core faculty member in the classroom as often as a junior professor. Distinguished visitors and adjuncts complement the faculty and diversify the graduate program. Introduction to sources and strategies for basic legal research, including finding cases, laws, regulations, and secondary authorities. This certificate program prepares you for the complex legal environment of business and helps assess your interest in law school. Students who excel in the law school program and graduate in the top 10% of their class can be placed in the Order of Coif, the equivalent of legal education at Phi Beta Kappa. Membership in the Coif represents the highest academic achievement in law studies. The University of Georgia received institutional membership in 1977 after meeting strict qualification criteria.

(Online, instructor-led) In this course, you will learn about computer operating systems, peripherals, and software for a variety of legal applications, such as tracking and billing, case management, routing slip control, litigation support, eDiscovery, and charts for presenting studies.
The historical evolution of criminal law as well as the analysis of the necessary constituent elements and the consideration of the most important classes of crimes. With its excellent online and face-to-face courses, the University of Georgia offers in cooperation with the Center for Legal Studies. You can develop the skills to provide specialized legal services to these employers. You don`t have to be a lawyer to start a career in the legal industry. (Online, instructor-led) This course covers a wide range of crucial topics in a law firm, such as legal terminology, jurisdiction, ethics, various written documents and filings, invoicing and accounting, time management, etc. (Classroom) Many organizations rely on paralegals to help lawyers. This course trains you to interview witnesses, examine complex factual patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and help prepare cases. The first year section and course assignments will be announced in early August prior to orientation. First-year law students are provided with a list of courses they must enrol in from the Faculty of Law at that time. Students register on Athena: athena.uga.edu. (Online, instructor-led) Learn the skills required to advise law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies on medical legal matters such as malpractice, tort, liability, personal injury, workers` compensation, and others.
Contracts are an introduction to the law of legally enforceable promises under section 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code and the common law. Among other things, the course deals with offers and their acceptance; consideration, formalities and confiscation of promissory notes; the probation rule and the Fraud Act; third-party law enforcement; substantial breach of contract; and damage. Students are expected to be able to explain in writing how these and other legal issues under the ULA and common law are to be applied to a variety of complex factual scenarios.
