Legal Services of Eastern Michigan Saginaw Street Flint Mi
Since 1951, Legal Services of Eastern Michigan (LSEM) has provided free civil legal assistance to people living in poverty. Its mission is to use legal skills to address the causes and effects of poverty. Particular emphasis is placed on issues that affect the survival needs of low-income individuals. This work is done both reactively, addressing individual legal needs, and proactively through impact work that drives systemic change that affects the poverty community as a whole. Most clients served live in poverty of 125% or less. This financial eligibility threshold is higher based on certain funding criteria for certain services. The East Michigan Legal Services Pro Bono Unit has four main features that are used to help clients access the justice system. They are direct representatives, consultation clinics, financial contributions and other projects. The objective of the pro bono units is to support the general services of internal staff and to assist clients who have civil law issues that are not priority LSEM.
In general, a person must be at or near the poverty line to be eligible for support under the LSEM pro bono program. Legal Services of Eastern Michigan participates in the Access to Justice campaign and encourages you through the ATJ Fund. The ATJ campaign is a collaborative centralized campaign administered by the Michigan State Bar Foundation in partnership with the Michigan State Bar to increase resources for seven regional programs and eight civil legal aid programs statewide Michigan. 100% of your donation will be distributed to support civil legal aid for the poor throughout Michigan.
